About Sifte
Sifte exists because web search changed, and it changed in a way that made the web harder to discover.
I remember using Google in 1998, back when I first found it through Yahoo. It felt simple and honest. You searched, scanned the results, clicked a link, and discovered the web for yourself.
That experience is disappearing.
Today, search results are increasingly filtered through AI summaries. Instead of sending people to websites, search engines now scrape answers from those websites and place the summary at the top. Soon, even ads may be blended into that experience in ways that are harder to recognize.
That is not the web I want.
ChatGPT and Claude already do a good job as chat-based tools. I use them for what they are good at. But Google does not need to turn search into another chatbot. Search should help people find websites, not replace them.
What Sifte does differently
Sifte is a human-curated search engine.
We do not crawl the web. We do not try to index everything. We do not build giant result pages full of SEO noise.
Instead, each search phrase has a small, controlled set of results. A result is added because a real person reviewed it and decided it belongs there.
For major brands and obvious official websites, we list the clear source. For everything else, links are reviewed by me and the Sifte team before they are included.
Why paid review exists
Paid review keeps Sifte small, focused, and accountable.
If a website owner wants to be considered for a search phrase, they can submit their site for human review. Payment does not guarantee placement or ranking. It pays for the time required to review the site, check the fit, and decide whether it belongs in the results.
That matters because Sifte is not trying to become another endless index. The goal is to bring back a cleaner version of search: fewer results, more judgment, and real links back to real websites.
Sifte is built to make the web feel old school again. No crawling. No giant database. No AI summary replacing the page. Just carefully reviewed search results and a web that still belongs to website owners.
